The Ethiopian Public Health Institute in collaboration with Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC-Ethiopia) and American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) conducted a training on Strengthening Laboratory Management Towards Accreditation 2 (SLMTA 2) from March 23 to 28, 2017 at Adama.

According to Ato Adinew Desalew the training coordinator of Regional Laboratories Capacity Building Directorate of EPHI, the objective of the training is to assist laboratories in the implementation of non conformance identification, root cause analysis, corrective action, preventive action, internal audit and management review.

“Within six months of time every laboratory facility must perform and complete their assignment in accordance with the laboratory procedures. The regional laboratories capacity building of EPHI expects laboratories to fill gaps and go for accreditation and improve their star level,” Ato Adinew added.

Ato Gonfa Ayana from EPHI’s Regional Laboratories Capacity Laboratories in his closing remarks said that you all have been trained on laboratory procedures before but still there is a gap that should be addressed. So in this training I believe you have acquired a better capacity to fulfill your gaps than before. Therefore, as soon as possible when you go back to your facilities you should start the implementation process and share the knowledge for your colleagues that is what I want to stress to you all.

In this training 41 laboratory technologists have participated from all regions and from the two city administrations except Gambella and Somali regional laboratories. The training was given by Mrs. Anna Murphy from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) of the United States of America.
