IANPHI conclud1The 2019 International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) meeting under the theme “Evidence Informed Global Actions for Trans-boundary Public Health Challenges” which was hosted by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) has been officially closed on December 5, 2019.
EPHI’s Director General Dr. Ebba Abate in his closing remark said that it was a very successful meeting and recognized all those individuals and organization who were involved in the organization of the meeting.
“The theme is very timely and led every session’s discussion effectively and the organization was successful,” added Dr. Ebba.
The meeting entertained seven plenary sessions and five concurrent sessions. Impact of National Public Health Institute (NPI) in the health development of a nation: Experience from Ethiopia was the first plenary session which was presented by EPHI’s Director General Dr. Ebba Abate. Perspectives on developing and strengthening NPHIs in Africa between 2017 – 2019, Africa Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) – NPHI Development in Africa, ACHAMPS Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance: data to action at multiple levels, and How IANPHI and WHO can jointly support NPHIs in strengthening public health systems through partnership were some of the titles discussed upon in the plenary sessions. While Piloting approaches to building NPHI capacity, Antimicrobial resistance – global and regional initiative projects, and Influenza – 10 years after the H1N1 pandemic – are we prepared for the next Influenza pandemic? were some of the agendas of the concurrent sessions.
Also on the first day of the meeting three documents namely Framework for NPHI Development in Africa, Providing Legal Framework for National Public Health Institute, and Framework for Public Health Workforce Development in Africa were launched.
Though the meeting was officially closed on December 6, there were IANPHI-Africa regional meeting and IANPHI – Asian, European and Latin American Regional Networking.
More than 100 participants from 74 member states have participated on the meeting. And next year’s meeting will be in Brazil on December 6.IANPHI conclud2
