EXCELLENCY IN PUBLIC HEALTH WORKFORCE CAPACITY BUILDING!

National public health training center constructed in collaboration with CDC-E and federal ministry of health with close follow up by EPHI.Federal ministry of health developed national health quality strategy to transform the quality of health care service in Ethiopian. Consequently, national public health training center (NPHTC) will enhance workforce performance by improving their knowledge, skill, and attitude.Fundamental job of training center is working on institutionalizing & standardizing of pre-service training through assessment on both organizational & individual levels, so designing training strategies to address identified gaps. The training center has one training auditorium, which can accommodate 500 participants and one conference hall, which accommodate 150-200 participants. It also has six comfortable breakout room (Syndicate Rooms) which can accommodate 377 participants.Internet service is other part of training center, which makes more comfortable the training center for both trainee and trainers.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Courses

Contemporary health knowledge is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by several critical factors. The emergence and resurgence of global pandemics, along with rapid advancements in complex medical technologies, have created an urgent need for healthcare professionals to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field. Additionally, swift organizational changes and rising public expectations further underscore the necessity for well-structured in-service training programs.
In this context, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) has established a framework guided by Regulation by. This regulation emphasizes the importance of providing both short-term and on-the-job training tailored to address the pressing needs in public health research, emergency management, and quality laboratory systems. Furthermore, it advocates for collaboration with higher education institutions to facilitate long-term training initiatives and recognizing these as essential components of the institute’s mission.
To systematically organize these fragmented training activities and enhance accountability in building health professional competencies, EPHI has established the National Training Center (NTC) and it is tasked with overseeing all training initiatives within the institute, ensuring that they are aligned with national public health goals.
The National Training Center plays a vital role in conducting training need assessment, designing of course syllabus, developing training modules with concept of delivering short-term in-service training programs specifically designed for public health emergency officers, laboratory technologists, and researchers.
These training sessions aim to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for improving their performance in their respective roles. As one of the largest CPD training providers for the national public health workforce, NTC now owns 50 accredited CPD modules and more modules are passing through design, development, and accreditation processes.
