Ethiopian Public Health Institute National Training Center
The Federal Ministry of Health clearly stated that strengthening in-service training is one of the core components to assure the quality of health care and it would not be assured without a sufficient number of skilled, motivated, and well-supported health workers.
Ethiopian Public Health Institute has been offering different public health training to multidisciplinary health professionals since its inception but that was not cost-effective due to a lack of an institutionalized training system. An institutionalized workforce development approach would enhance for fostering of resilient workforce capacity in order to maintain professional competence & organizational learning culture.
Now, the institute established a new national public health training center in collaboration with USA-CDC and the federal ministry of health to enhance institutionalized public health training programs at a national level.
The training center has been legally structured with four team units namely the training facilitator unit, training quality units, training registration, and digital library unit.
The training center facility hasa very well-structured and technologically supported auditorium, which can accommodate 500 participants, and one conference hall, which accommodates 150-200 participants.
It also has 06 comfortable breakout Syndicate Rooms which can accommodate 377 participants at a time. Our cafeteria services are well designed with 3-star levels, to provide catering services that would enhance the effectiveness of the training programs.
Strengthening of continual Professional Development (CPD) program is one core competency implementation strategy that is used to maintain health professionals’ knowledge, skill, and attitude to assure the quality of health service in their discipline.
Now, the National Public Health Training Center(NTC) is rigorously working on the CPD program by scaling up training modules development based on training need assessment particularly focusing on three thematic areas; Public health Emergency Management (PHEM), National laboratory program, and Public Research and Nutritions.
Currently, the NTC directorate developed more than 35 training modules in different training areas of which 18 training modules were accredited by Addis Ababa University. Detailed information on the accredited training modules is described below.
