To conduct high-quality research on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with a focus on lifestyle, environmental, genetic, and health care delivery system factors. The division aims to inform policy, strengthen healthcare delivery, and promote effective prevention and control strategies for NCDs in Ethiopia.
Objectives:
- To conduct research on national NCD priorities, generating scientific evidence to strengthen and support national NCD prevention strategies
- To conduct risk factor analysis by investigating lifestyle and environmental factors contributing to chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
- To conduct population health studies by evaluating the burden of chronic diseases across different demographics and geographic regions.
- Conducting research on respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and others.
- Conducting research on cardiovascular, hormonal and metabolic disorders including goiter and thyroid cancer
- Conduct research on mental health, injuries and psychosocial disability
- Evaluating the efficacy, effectiveness and safety (the likelihoods of adverse effects) of drugs used for the treatment of NCD
- Research and evaluate the cost effectiveness of intervention strategies for NCDs
- Conduct research on improving the conditions of the patient and management and rehabilitation centers, as well as treatment options to NCDs
- Conduct longitudinal studies by tracking health outcomes over time to understand the progression of chronic diseases and associated risk factors.
- Conduct research during public health emergency and after, and provide technical support on prevention and preparedness of public health emergency.
