Dr. Aderajew Mekonnen Girmay

Health System Research Directorate Director

Aderajew Mekonnen Girmay is an Ethiopian professional born in 1987. He has achieved significant academic qualifications, including a PhD in Water and Public Health, a master’s degree in General Public Health, and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health. Throughout his career, Aderajew has held diverse managerial positions and has served as a national data manager. This experience has provided him with valuable insights into effective management practices and data handling.
Currently, Aderajew holds the esteemed position of Lead Researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, where he actively contributes to research and innovation in the field of public health. His role involves conducting studies and investigations on various public health aspects, particularly focusing on environmental health, epidemiology and biostatistics, Child health, water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), food safety, and database management. In addition to his research responsibilities, he also serves as the acting director of the Health System Research Directorate, where he manages, leads, and coordinates the directorate’s activities.
Aderajew’s professional interests extend beyond research, as he also possesses expertise in database management. His proficiency in this area enables him to effectively organize, analyze, and utilize health-related data, contributing to evidence-based decision-making processes and supporting the development of informed public health policies and strategies. With his extensive education, experience in managerial roles, and expertise in public health and database management, Aderajew Mekonnen Girmay plays a vital role in advancing public health initiatives and contributing to the well-being of the Ethiopian population.
