Assessment of SARS CoV-2 in wastewater treatment plant influent of Addis Ababa: pilot study.

Description

Because the SARS-CoV-2 sheds in human excreta and further disposed in the sewerage or in the environment, wastewater-based detection of SARS-COV-2 could be an alternative and cost-effective method for COVID-19 Surveillance, especially in resource limited settings. It could serve as an early warning of COVID-19 outbreak, or control mechanism for potential virus transmission. Thus, this study aims for detection of SARS-CoV-2, and build local capacity, and to give first insights into sequencing of isolates data generated for SARS-CoV-2 RNA from wastewater management plants in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Objectives

• To develop testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2 detection from wastewater
• To look for novel mutations that confer virulence and immune evasion
• To improve data management and electronic test reporting system.
