Dr. Getachew Tollera (MD, MPH)

Dr. Getachew is Deputy Director General at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute since March 2019. He has led multimillion projects that involve various stakeholders and disciplines. To mention a few: Evaluation of CIFF’s charitable investment, Geshiaro (Ethiopia transmission break); the investment aims to break the transmission of Soil Transmitted helminthesand Schistosomiasis in Ethiopia, Burden of Diseases EPHI-IHME project, Data-to-Action EPHI/CHAMPS project, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) surveillance projects, funded by CDC-GHSA and World Bank, multiple Global Fund funded projects, HIV Case Based Surveillance, PEPFAR funded, Quality Evidence for Health System Transformation (QuEST), Ethiopian QuESTCenter, BMGF funded https://questnetwork.org/people/getachew-tollera, Ethiopia Mini Demographic and Health Survey-2019, Ethiopian Service Provision Assessment ( ESPA)-2021/2022, National Information Platform for Nutrition (NIPN) in Ethiopia, funded by the European Union, Iodine-Folic Acid Double-Fortified Salt ( DFS-IoFA) project in Ethiopia, funded by BMGF, COVID-19 related research taskforce, Sustainable Under nutrition Reduction in Ethiopia (SURE), Lead Investigator of TRiAD study ( Triage Test for All Oral DR-TB Regimen) https://triadtrial.org/Consortium, The Integrated Pathogen Genomic Sequencing Facility, and more.
He had served as Director, Human Resource for Health and played key role in restructuring health workforce education, development and management at the Ethiopian ministry of health. He had served as president of Students Union of Addis Ababa University-Medical Faculty (College of Health Sciences) during his medical school years. Dr. Getachew has a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Gonder, Ethiopia and a Medical Doctorate Degree from the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
