Costing Workshop of NAPHS Carried Out Successfully
A costing workshop for the National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS) which was organized by the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) was conducted successfully in Bishoftu town from April 30 to May 2nd, 2018.
It is to be recalled that the NAPHS was developed by EPHI’s Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) along with WHO, Center for Disease Control (CDC), Ministries and Universities in November 30, 2017.
Previously during the development of the action plan it was disclosed that Ethiopia is expected to come up with the NAPHS in 2017 unfortunately that didn’t happen because the health sector was busy in engaging the Elino induced drought and disease outbreak responses. And the planning of the NAPHS was initiated with the commitment of Ethiopian government, WHO leadership and active partnership with One Health spirit.
The sixty-eight session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted a resolution to implement a variety of approaches in the assessment and development of International Health Regulation (IHR) core capacities. In addition member states have also adapted the Regional Strategy for Health Security and Emergencies during the 66th Regional Committee for Africa. One of the recommendations of this strategy was to conduct the JEE using multispectral and all hazards approach and to develop and implement NAPHS which address gaps identified during the JEE.
