በአፍሪካ ዓለም ጤና ድርጅት ከፍተኛ ኃላፊ ኢንስቲትዩቱን ጐበኙ Senior WHO Official Visited EPHI

የዓለም ጤና ድርጅት የአፍሪካ ተጠባባቂ ቀጣናዊ ዳይሬክተር ዶ/ር ቺክዌ ኢኽክዋዙ የሕብረተሰብ ጤና ድንገተኛ አደጋ ቁጥጥርን እና ሌሎች የሕብረተሰብ ጤና ነክ ጉዳዮችን ለመወያየት መጋቢት 5/2017 ዓ.ም የኢትዮጵያ የሕብረተሰብ ጤና ኢንስቲትዩትን ጐበኙ።
በጉብኝቱ ወቅት የኢንስቲትዩቱ ዋና ዳይሬክተር ዶ/ር መሳይ ኃይሉ ኢንስቲትዩቱ በአፍሪካ የሕብረተሰብ ጤና የልህቀት ማዕከል የመሆን ራዕይ በመስነቅ የኢትዮጵያውያንን ጤና በምርምር፣ በሕብረተሰብ ጤና ድንገተኛ ቁጥጥር፣ በላቦራቶሪና የመረጃ አያያዝ ተግባራት ለማሻሻል እንደሚስራ አጠር ያለ ማብራሪያ ሰጥተዋል።
እንደ ዋና ዳይሬክተሩ ገለጻ፣ ኢንስቲትዩቱ ከሕብረተስብ ጤና አደጋዎች ቁጥጥር እና ለአለም አቀፍ የጤና ደንቦች (International Heath Regulations) እና የአንድ ጤና (One Health) ጽህፈት ቤቶች ዋና ማእከል በመሆን ከሌሎች ዘርፎች ጋር በማቀናጀት በጥሩ ሁኔታ እየትገበረ ነው ብለዋል ።
የኢንስቲትዩቱ ምክትል ዋና ዳይሬክተር ዶ/ር መልካሙ አብቴ በበኩላቸው ኢንስቲትዩቱ የሕብረተሰብ ጤና አደጋዎች እንዲሁም የጤና ስጋቶችን ፈጣን የሆነ ውጤታማ የተቀናጀና ሁሉን አቀፍ ምላሽ በመስጠት የበሽታ ቅኝት፣ መከላከሉና መቆጣጠሩ ላይ ያለውን ጉልህ አስተዋፅዖ በተመለከተ ገለፆና ማብራርያ የሰጡ ሲሆን፣ ኢትዮጵያን በመስኩ የተዋጣለት ወቅቱን አገልግሎት መስጠትን ለማሻሻል ለባለሙያዎች በየወቅቱ ስለሚሰጡ የአቅም ግንባታ ስልጠናዎችም ጠቅሰዋል።
ዶ/ር ኢኽክዋዙ በጉብኝታቸው ወቅት አገራቱ ለሕብረተሰብ ጤና አደጋዎች ፈጣን እና ውጤታማ ምላሽ ለመስጠት የሚያስችላቸውን የህዝብ ጤና መሠረተ ልማቶቻቸውን ማጠናከር እንዳለባቸው አስረድተው ኢትዮጵያም በዚህ ረገድ ያሳየችው እመርታ የሚነደቅና ለሌሎች ሀገራትም እንደምሳሌ መወሰድ የሚችል መሆኑን ገልፀዋል። አያይዘውም ኢንስቲትዩት የአንድ ጤናን ኃላፊነት በመቀበል እየሰራ ያለዉ ስራ የሚበረታታ መሆኑን ገልፀው የአለም የጤና ድርጅትም የሚያደርጋቸውን ድጋፎች ሁሉ አጠናክሮ እንደሚቀጥል አረጋግጠዋል።

The World Health Organization’s (WHO AFRO) Acting Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, visited the Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) to discuss public health emergency management and other public health-related issues.
During the visit, Dr. Messay Hailu, Director General of EPHI, provided a brief explanation on how EPHI aims to improve the health of Ethiopians through research, public health emergency management, laboratory systems, and data management activities, with a vision to become a Center of Excellence in public health in Africa.
According to the Director General , the Institute is now legally mandated to execute the nation’s public health emergency management related activities, and be a focal point for of the International Health Regulations (IHR) & the secretariat of One Health (OH) office initiatives in the country and now well aligned with other sectors in executing these activities.
Dr. Melkamu Abte, Deputy Director General of EPHI, delivered a comprehensive presentation focusing on key aspects of the role of EPHI in ensuring rapid and effective management of health crises, including disease outbreaks and public health threats. In his presentation, Dr.Melkamu also outlined EPHI’s pivotal role in ensuring rapid and coordinated responses to health emergencies.
During his visit, Dr. Ihekweazu emphasized the critical need for countries to bolster their public health infrastructure to respond quickly and effectively to health emergencies. He highlighted Ethiopia’s efforts in building capacity for public health emergency management and commended the country for its work in improving preparedness and response mechanisms in the region.
“Ethiopia has made significant strides in strengthening its public health systems, and it is a model for the continent in terms of how nations can prepare for, manage, and mitigate the effects of health emergencies,” Dr. Ihekweazu appreciated Ethiopia as an important example for coordinating and mandating all one health-related activities.
Dr. Ihekweazu further said that “WHO will continue its support so that Africa’s health systems are ready to face emerging threats.” The WHO’s support includes providing technical assistance, training, and resources to enhance national emergency management frameworks.
