A Training Program on Public Health Emergencies conducted
The aim of the training program is to create awareness on the new guideline on responses to public health emergencies which is being developed by the institute and to draw attention to international set of rules related to public health emergency.
In her opening speech at the training program, Dr. Tsehaynesh Messele, Director General of the Institute said that ‘’even if public health emergency management has been incorporated at present as one of the core processes of EHNRI, all activities allied to it have to be carried out with the involvement of various organizations, regional health bureaus, stakeholders and other stakeholders.
Dr. Tsehaynesh further said that a collaborative and coordinated effort is necessary to prevent, manage and respond to public health emergency events.
The first three days of the training session were devoted to show up some aspects of the new rule on Public Health Emergency Management which is being developed by EHNRI and to share ideas on reporting forms and ways of organizing and disseminating information on identified diseases.
In the training session, recommendations and suggestions on the draft Emergency Management document was given by health professionals as well as representatives of each regional state, WHO, UNICEF, USAID, FoNSE and Tulen University Technical Assistance Program, Ethiopia.
After each presentation, discussions were entertained by the presenters and topical ideas were forwarded by the participants regarding the topics projected at the training program.
At the training program a structure which represents public health emergency management was presented for participants in order to seek their ideas on it after which several positive and constructive views were reflected.
In the course of the training session, nine major health risks by order of priority were also identified.
On the fourth day of the training program, representatives of regional health bureaus, collaborative organizations and other institutions which are involved directly or indirectly in the health sector shared their ideas and projected their views on international best practices of public health emergency system.
On the final day of the training program, presentation was made on how to develop Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response plan. Alongside with this, ideas were shared on the way of developing Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan at regional level according to the particular situation of each region.
