3rd Scientific Conference was Successfully Conducted
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) 3rd Scientific Conference was held from October 27 – 29, 2016 under the main theme “Evidence Based Decision for Public Health Transformation”.
“On behalf of myself and EPHI, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to you all for accepting our invitation to participate in our 3rd scientific conference. The conference has similar objectives with the previous ones, but broader in scope both in depth and width,” said Dr. Amha Kebede Director General of EPHI on his welcoming speech.
His Excellency Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu Minister of Health on his opening speech mentioned that the Institute is working to realize the country’s Health Transformation Plan.
“This conference will contribute a great deal to enrich the country’s policy and the public health in general,” added the Minister.
The main objectives of the congress are to acquaint the Institute’s stakeholders, the scientific community and the public at large on major achievements of EPHI, and to create the platform to exchange views on public health research, public health emergency management, food science and nutrition, and quality laboratory system among professionals to strengthen national health research and intervention.
According to the conference’s organizing committee, Center for Disease Control (CDC) Ethiopia, World Vision and UNAIDS Ethiopia have financially supported the Institute to organize the conference. The donors have been awarded certificate of recognition on the opening ceremony by EPHI.
On the conference 157 oral and 88 poster presentations were presented by EPHI staff, participants from universities and institutions. More than 500 guests and participants from The House of Representatives, Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, Universities, World Health Organization, CDC Ethiopia, World Vision, UNAIDS Ethiopia, and partners organizations attended the conference.
