Country EYE Strategic Plan Readied
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) held a workshop in Bishoftu town from May 4 – 6, 2018 to prepare Eliminate Yellow Fever Epidemics (EYE) country strategic plan.
Dr. Feyesa Regasa EPHI’s PHEM acting director while presenting the objectives and outcomes of the workshop said that the purpose of the workshop is to prepare a three year working plan by engaging all relevant stakeholders.
“Globally there is a strategic plan which envisions a world without yellow fever with the objective to eliminate yellow fever by 2026. Based on this plan on this workshop we are going to prepare a costed EYE strategy plan for Ethiopia,” explained Dr. Feyesa.
EPI and Surveillance Update and Potential Challenges in EYE Strategy in Ethiopia were presentations delivered by Zewdu Assefa of EPHI’s PHEM case team leader while Yellow Fever situation in Ethiopia and Overview on Global Yellow Fever Situation and Components of EYE Strategy were presented by WHO representatives Dr. Abay Hagos and Dr. Abiy Girmay respectively.
According to recent developments the EYE strategic plan for Ethiopia has been submitted to the WHO Afro as planned.
