EHNRI Conducts the 2nd National Science Conference

The Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute (EHNRI) conducts a national science conference from 14 to 15 May, 2012 at Ghion Hotel, Addis Ababa.
The conference, which is aiming at creating awareness among participants and the public regarding EHNRI’s health research activities and a forum to exchange views among professionals, attracts about 250 participants from the Parliament, different Ministries, Universities, Agencies, Regional Health Bureaus, Professional Associations, Partner Organizations and private health and food institutions.
On his opening remark of the workshop, Dr. Amha Kebede A/Director General of EHNRI said that, the conference is believed to give the opportunity to bring together all the research communities, public health workers and present and discuss the findings of important researches and public health activities done by the institute for the last five years.
“Strong collaboration and coordination among these stakeholders will bring about success in achieving the targets set for the health sector as well as other sectors within the five years Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP)” added Dr. Amha.
During the workshop, in addition to the display of 61 poster presentations 25 oral presentations were delivered by different researchers of the Institute in the area of infectious diseases, laboratory capacity development, public health emergency management, Food Science and Nutrition, and traditional medicine and health system researches.
Dr. Eshetu Lemma, Head of the Workshop Organizing Committee and Director of the Scientific Ethical Review Office said that, I believe the conference participants will find the research findings most stimulating and I also hope that it will help the participants to develop a greater awareness of the recent progress of the Institute’s researches.
Professor Beyene Petros, a participant from Addis Ababa University said that the 2nd National Science Conference of EHNRI has created interesting and worthwhile experience among participants; however, similar conferences have to be conducted every year in order to create understanding on the ongoing researches and avoid research duplication that causes wastage of national resource.
It is recalled that, the first science conference of the Institute was held from 27 to 28 June, 2002 mainly to crate meaningful linkage between EHNRI and research findings implementing agencies and disseminate the research findings to wider audience.
