EPHI conducts Post Epidemic Assessment Findings Dissemination Workshop on Meningococcal Meningitis
Meningococcal Meningitis Post Epidemic Assessment Findings Dissemination Workshop, that is organized by the Public Health Emergency Center of the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute, EHNRI held from September 19 to 20, 2013, at Hotel Pinna, Hawassa.
The surveillance, which was conducted by EHNRI in collaboration with the Oromiya and SNNP Regional Health bureaus, was intended to evaluate the response of the two regions during meningococcal meningitis outbreaks of last year in their respective regions.
During the dissemination workshop, best practices, strengths, weaknesses and lessons on meningococcal meningitis epidemic management were presented at the Federal, Regional, Zonal and Woreda level.
Dr Daddi Jima, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute, who welcomed all participants of the workshop, said that the workshop is conducted to facilitate discussions among regional PHEM focal persons or representatives of each region in order to let them share experiences.
Ato Kedrellah Ahmed, Director of the SNNP Regional Health Bureau Public Relation and Communication Directorate has also delivered a welcoming address on behalf of the head of SNNP regional health bureau. On his speech, Ato Kedrellah wishes the workshop participants to deliver a successful workshop.
In the two days workshop more than 20 oral presentations were delivered. Panel discussion on outbreak response, especially on strengthens, weaknesses, coordination, surveillance, vaccination, case management and supply management were also deeply discussed.
The workshop, subsequent to crucially discussing on the matter, receives guidance and directives by Dr. Daddi Jima, Head of the Public Health Emergency Center and Deputy Director of the Institute
The workshop, except missing participants from Diredawa, Benshngulgumuz and Somali regions, has attracted 92 participants from the remaining regions, including participants from UNICEF and WHO.
