The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) organized a consultative meeting with stakeholders for establishing the National Data Management Center on February 19, 2018.
The meeting was aimed to strengthen the effort being exerted to establish a central data center where researches will be gathered and used for policy and program making and also for researchers who are enrolled in the graduate program accordingly.
Prof. Yifru Birhan Minister of Health in his opening speech explained that establishing the national data management center in the country will be very useful for policy makers, various health related programs and researchers including foreigners who are engaged in various researches.
“Currently we are purchasing servers with high capacity which will be installed in the center. EPHI is the technical arm of the Ministry and has many years of rich experience in the field. The Institute was and is conducting very important researches. Therefore the responsibility of establishing the center is given to the Institute,” added the Minister.
Dr. Ebba Abate Director General of EPHI on his part said that various data are produced from more than 45 higher education institutions and from more than 60 health institutions which can be input for policy making and different related strategies. However these data are not organized in a central manner that can be retrieved whenever needed. Therefore the establishment of the Center will play a vital role to utilize these data properly and EPHI has been working closely with stakeholders to realize the establishment of the center.
