NIPN Ethiopian delegation in attendance at 5th Annual Gathering in Brussels, Belgium
ADDIS ABABA – June 05, 2023 (NIPN/EPHI) – A delegation of experts drawn from the National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN), Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has left for Brussels, Belgium, to attend the 5th Annual Gathering under the theme “Communication for Informed Decision Making”. The event is reportedly the initiative of the European Commission (EC), its partners, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). According to the invitation letter addressed to NIPN-Ethiopia, the 5th Global Gathering aims to bring together the different NIPN platforms to discuss and work together towards communication for the results and sustainability of the platforms.
Members of the delegation, which is jointly led by Mesay Hailu (PhD), Director General of EPHI, and NIPN Coordinator Aregash Samuel (PhD), include Archana Sarkar, Advisor-NIPN at GIZ; Meron Girma (PhD), Policy Analyst with NIPN; Tadesse Zerfu (PhD), a research fellow with IFPRI; Gebretsadik Keleb, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer from NIPN; and Tirsit Genye, a researcher with IFPRI.
Following the event, which takes place from 6-8 of June 2023, participants will visit EU institutions and the Global NIPN Office/C4N.
The nine NIPN implementing countries- Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya, Laos PDR, Niger, Uganda, and Zambia will be in attendance at the 5th Annual Gathering.
The 4th NIPN Global Annual Gathering was held in Mombasa, Kenya, in October 2022 under the theme “Accelerating for Results,” with its focus on identifying areas for acceleration within the NIPN processes to ensure the sustainability of the platforms in the long term.
It is to be recalled that the specific objectives of the 2022 Global Gathering were to identify major achievements and remaining challenges that enable or hinder platforms from achieving more in less time; promote good practices around automatization and institutionalization of each function of the NIPN; and identify key steps that will lead the NIPN platforms towards sustainability.
