Ongoing Workshop on National Health Emergency Plan
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Public Health Emergency Management Center (PHEM) is carrying out a workshop with health professionals from regions on developing National Risk Assessment and Emergency Preparedness Response Plan in Adama town to be held from July 31 until August 4, 2017.
Health professionals from Harrari, Benshangul, Oromiya and South Nations Nationalities and Peoples Regions including representatives from Federal Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water Resources and Emergency Management are participating on the workshop.
Abdi Ahmed senior expert at EPHI’s PHEM explained that the workshop aims to develop a consistent national plan between the Institute, regions, woredas, organizations working on controlling natural and artificial emergencies and regional health bureaus in order to be able to work in harmony during pre and post emergency situations.
“The whole plan is to organize the necessary human resource, materials supply and other health related inputs from the Institutes side. While the health officers are expected to identify health emergencies in their respective regions and be able to prepare risk assessment and emergency preparedness response plan,” added Abdi.
After the workshop the participants will be able to identify emergency health problems, collecting accurate data during emergencies and will develop their skill on planning risk assessment and emergency preparedness response.
