The 8th Malaria Research Symposium being Held
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in collaboration with Addis Continental Institute of Public Health is hosting the 8th Ethiopian Malaria Research Symposium under the theme “Climate Variability: A Catalyst for Malaria and Other Infectious Diseases” which will be held from February 27 – 28, 2017.
Dr. Ebba Abate Director General of EPHI on his opening speech indicated that due to collaborative efforts from different actors working the area including the strong commitment given from government side guided by well-crafted preventive strategies, big improvement has been achieved and became possible to significantly reduce the burden of malaria and its epidemic rate in Ethiopia.
“The pleasant news we are hearing these days related to new therapeutics and vaccine prospects augment the process of this initiative, however it is important to emphasize the need to strengthen further the effort in all dimensions (human, vector and environmental) and to use the available findings in a comprehensive approach to achieve the set goal,” added Dr. Ebba.
Researches conducted on malaria reduction and elimination in Ethiopia will be presented on the symposium. Representatives from Ministry of Health, universities, regional health bureaus and non-governmental organizations will participate on the symposium.
