The Ethiopian National Nutrition Conference held at Hilton Addis
The Ethiopian National Nutrition Conference was held at the Hilton Hotel on the topic “Diets, Affordability and Policy in Ethiopia: From evidence to Action” on December 12, 2019.
The main purpose of the conference is to support the implementation of Ethiopia’s National Food and Nutrition Policy (NFNP), the International Food Policy Research Institute(IFPRI), Policy Studies Institute (PSI), Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI), and the Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) program jointly organized the conference
During the conference new research results on diets, affordability, and policy were presented.
The conference participants were welcomed by Bart Minten, program leader at IFPRI and the key note address was delivered by Dr. Assefa Deressa a senior researcher and research adviser of the Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI).
The conference discussed patterns in diet diversity, affordability of healthy diets, impact of policies and programs, and the pathways that shows the trend from research to implementation and what is needed to get better results.
During the conference researches related to diet and stunting in Ethiopia, nutrient gaps of children, bottlenecks for a healthy diets in Ethiopia were discussed.
Additionally, the costs and the affordability of healthy foods, policies and programs for nutrition in Ethiopia are some of the themes that were discussed upon.
