The Institute’s researchers present findings on ICASA

The Researchers of the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Institute, EHNRI present the findings of researches on the 16th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA), which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in December 2011.
According to the letter of recognition, written by Dr. Amha Kebede, A/Director of the Institute to the researchers, that is intended to recognize the researchers’ effort and express gratitude, eight researchers of the Institute, have delivered 11 oral and poster presentations in ICASA.
Among the researchers of the Institute, Ato Dawit Assefa has received the young Investigation Award of ICASA 2011 for his particular work on Evaluation of In-House HIV Drug Resistance Testing Assay.
During the conference, Dr. Almaz Abebe has also delivered a presentation on Findings of the Pilot National Sentinel TB/HIV Surveillance System in Ethiopia, April 2010 to December 2011. Dr. Belete Tegbaru, one of the Senior Researchers of the Institute, has also delivered a presentation on Evaluation of Point of Care CD4 Testing in Ethiopia and Evaluation of the Newly Produced Single Tube CDT+ Reagent for the Determination of CD4 T cells in Pediatrics.
In addition to them, Ato Desta KASSA on The Dynamics of HIV RNA, CD4 count and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) antigen specific cytokines in TB/HIV patients following successful tuberculosis (TB) treatment, Wro. Wegene Tamene on sICAM-1 and sUPAR as Immune Markers for Treatment Response in Ethiopian TB-Patients with and without HIV Infection, Ato Asfaw Adane on Agreement between NucliSENS EasyQ HIV v1.1 and NucliSENS EasyQ HIV v2.0 for Determination of HIV-1 RAN Concentration in Plasma Specimen and Ato Libsework Muluneh on False Positive HIV Results in Ethiopia have presented an oral and poster presentations on the conference.
According to the letter of the A/Director, Dr. Amha, all the findings of the Institute’s researchers that were presented in ICASA will be published in the research publication of the Institute that we will publish in the near future.
