ToT on MERS-CoV were Delivered

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (MoE) and other partner organizations delivered a briefing on training of clinical and supportive teams deployed at Bole International Airport in order to acquaint the 49 participants with the necessary knowledge and skill on the prevention and control of human Middle East Respiratory Distress Syndrome (MERS-Cov) and the risk introduction of the virus with the returnees from the Saudi Arabia from July 3 to 4, 2017.
Also previously from June 8 to 9, 2017 a Training of Trainers (ToT) was provided for the necessary preparedness on the risk on introduction of the with the Saudi Arabia returnees.

According to Dr. Feyissa Regassa, expert at EPHI’s PHEM the ToT was designed to acquaint participants with basic facts of MERS-CoV and knowledge and skill that help to strengthen the surveillance system and response capacity to early detect and to rapidly respond to MERS-CoV outbreak in Ethiopia.
“The participants are expected to cascade the training with the outcome of sensitize the public at lare, returnees and health workers on MERS, strengthen surveillance system against MERS-CoV by providing guideline, reporting formats and strengthen laboratory capacity for the MERS diagnosis were some of the expectations from the trainees, and the participants were 22 from Regional Health Bureaus and 30 representatives from hospitals which was more than planned” said Dr. Feyissa.
Giving emphasis on creating awareness about the disease about 100 participants drawn from the health facilities of all regions have taken the necessary orientation on the overview of MERS-CoV, overall risk introduction of MERS-CoV and required preparedness during the rabies training program that had been undertaken between June 26 to 29, 2017 at EPHI which was organized by PHEM and Vaccine Production and Diagnostic Directorate.
