Training kickoff on LIS
A training program, conducted by the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute on Laboratory Information System (LIS) kickoff at the conference hall of EHNRI, on August 27, 2012.
On the opening session of the training, Ato Gonfa Ayana, A/Director, Regional Laboratories Capacity Building Directorate at EHNRI, said that expansion of LIS is one of the major activities under the Health Management Information System, HMIS that is aimed at bringing timely flow of accurate information and ensuring interaction between physicians, patients and laboratories.
Ato Gonfa further said that, after completing the training, the trainees and their respective laboratories are expected to minimize laboratory result related errors and produce quality health laboratory results.
During the opening session of the first round training, Ato Aklilu Asrat, representative of CDC Ethiopia has also said that, equipping with the LIS, which is a modern technology, will help the implementing laboratories to perform their duties in a modern way and improve the individual skills of the participants.
According to Tigist Habtamu, Head, the IT Team in the EHNIR and the Training Coordinator, the training, which was started on August 27, 2012 and will be ended on September 8, 2012, attracted more than 100 trainees in the three round.
The training, that is planned to cover all health laboratories nationwide, brought together participants from Federal Police Hospital, Hawasa Regional Hospital, Nekemt Hospital, Bahir Dar Regional Laboratory, Adama Regional Laboratory and Gonder University which are already established the LIS in their respective laboratories.
The LIS implementation project is mainly aimed at keeping away from difficulties faced in manual system by automating the system in the nationwide. In addition to that, it reduce the cost related to lab registration, improve responses time, eliminate data redundancy problem, avoid fraud or missing of any patient data by unauthorized people and improve Quality Control.
