Workshop on Newborn Malnutrition Underway
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Food Science and Nutrition Research Directorate in collaboration with John Hopkins University are conducting an impact evaluation design workshop on the Seqota Declaration starting from October 30 to November 3, 2017 in Cherchell Hotel Addis Ababa.
The Seqota Declaration is an agreement entered in Seqota at the federal level to overcome newborn malnutrition. The workshop evaluates which procedures will be more effective to implement the newborn malnutrition reduction program and points out the way forward.
According to Andinet Abera from EPHI’s Food Science and Nutrition Research Directorate and coordinator of the Seqota Declaration Evaluation Study, the declaration was made based on the Tekeze river basin and will be implemented in selected 29 wordas in Amhara and Tigray regions.
“These regions are selected because they are stricken by famine repeatedly and compared to the other parts of the country these regions face malnutrition problems,” added Andinet.
After the workshop all sector offices and executives will identify what will be their next tasks and will be find a way to work in harmony with all the relevant authorities.
