Workshop on Traditional Medicine was Conducted Successfully
A workshop on the main theme: Traditional Medicine: Past, Current and Future was organized by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Traditional and Modern Medicine Research Directorate which was held from December 14 to 16, 2015 in Adama.
The main aim of the workshop was to disseminate the research outputs and discuss on the strength, challenges and way forwards of the different institutions working together for the promotion and development of Ethiopian Traditional medicines.
Dr. Yibeltal Assefa deputy director general of EPHI in his opening remark indicated most of the society uses traditional medicines and now the major concern should be on how to integrate modern and traditional medicines.
Different research papers were presented on the workshop which was followed by group discussions on Traditional Medicine Research gaps and the way forward. Local pharmaceutical contributions for the production of validated traditional medicines, coordination and regulatory aspects of traditional medicine and practices in Ethiopia and also collaboration work for the integration of traditional medicine were the main points of discussion.
Representatives from Universities, traditional healers and manufacturers were participants of the workshop whom actively participated in the group discussions and presentations.
