Workshop SURE Implementation Conducted
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Food Science and Nutrition Research Directorate (FSNRD) conducted a process evaluation and finding dissemination workshop to disseminate research findings conducted on Sustainable Under-nutrition Reduction (SURE) in Ethiopia on February 5, 2018.
The research dissemination workshop was organized to provide evidences on the implementation of SURE in Ethiopia for the audiences who came from ministry of health, ministry of agriculture and children’s investment fund foundation.
Dr. Ebba Abate EPHI’s Director General on his opening speech indicated that SURE is mainly implemented by regional health and agriculture sectors jointly and evidence from this workshop will provide input for the program refinement to the implementers.
“In our country there is a decline in prevalence of under nutrition in children under-five years of age, however the current under nutrition rate remains very high. Currently, Ethiopia is trying to reach middle class country but to achieve this, unreserved effort need to be in place for children to grow well and mothers to be healthy and well nourished. This is only possible, if we can work on nutrition to enhance the nutritional wellbeing of the nation. The root causes of malnutrition are more complex and addressing the problem requires integrated action between various sectors, The Ethiopian Public Health Institute is very grateful for the financial support received from the Child Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) through the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia as part of the SURE program. We are immensely thankful for the technical support we received from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine,” added Dr. Ebba.
Girmay Ayana a researcher at EPHI’s FSNRD explained that on the workshop the successes and challenges encountered during the implementation of the SURE and the way forward is have been also discussed with the stakeholders.
