Chemical, Bio & Radionuclear Simulation Exercise Conducted
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s (EPHI) Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) conducted Ethiopia National Chemical Biological and Radionuclear Technical Working Group Simulation Exercise from December 4 – 5, 2023 here in EPHI’s Training Center.
Dr. Melkamu Abte Deputy Director General of EPHI while opening the workshop indicated that one of the objectives of the workshop is to Enhance technical knowledge and skills of the national cross-government Chemical, Biological and Radio Nuclear (CBRN) Technical Working Group including an opportunity to exercise a realistic scenario which will improve understanding of chemical risks and response and feed into the development of future strategies.
Mr. Eyob Getachew, CBRN Incident Surveillance and Response Case Team Lead on his behalf explained that the workshop also aims to identify gap in effective multi-agency response to a chemical event, which can be used to identify key areas of need for inclusion in the future development of the chemical incident response plan.
”Coordination during the response to a chemical incident to improve future response efficiency and effectiveness, including information sharing and communication both during routine work and in emergency responses was also part of the exercise,” added Mr. Eyob.
The UK Health Security Agency has mainly supported the workshop’s realization in collaboration with the Africa CDC.
Finally, participants of the workshop have received their certificates.
