EPHI Conducted Tabletop Exercise on Mpox
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) conducted a tabletop exercise on Mpox in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), WHO-Ethiopia, the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA), and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US-CDC)on September 20, 2024.
The objectives of the exercise were to assess and enhance the national preparedness and response capacity by identifying any existing gaps and improving coordination; and in accordance with the International Health Regulations (IHR-2005), countries are required to bolster their preparedness and response capabilities and promptly report any outbreaks declared as Public Health Emergencies of International Concern (PHEIC) to WHO.
The exercise concluded successfully, featuring an engaging discussion that highlighted identified strengths and areas for improvement. Subsequently, EPHI will collaborate with key partners to implement the recommended improvement plans.
EPHI, MoH, Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission, Resolve To Save Lives, Africa CDC, Ethiopian Red Cross Society, MSH, AMREF, and the International Medical Corps were among the participants on the exercise.
