EPHI Conducting 23rd Guinea Worm Annual Review Meeting
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) along with the Carter Center Ethiopia and the World Health Organization is conducting the 23rd National Annual Review Meeting of the Ethiopian Dracunculiasis Eradication Program (EDEP) in Gambella starting from December 11 to 12, 2018.
Dr. Amir Aman Minister of the Ministry of Health while addressing participants of the meeting said that during the last year a lot of work has been done in the health sector and to protect human drancunculiasis infection we have been working with EPHI at case team level along with Carter Center, however we are not that much successful as compared to other African countries.
“In general in order to eradicate this disease we need to do only four things. Integrated activities, clean water supply, capacity building and monitoring and support are the activities expected from us to eradicate this disease from our country. I promise that my Ministry in collaboration with Gambella region will do all the possible things to eradicate this disease,” added the Minister.
On the opening of the meeting H.E Mr. Omod Ojulu, President of Gambella Region and the Most Honorable World Laureate Dr. Tebebe Yemane Berhan Past LCIF Board of Trustees and GWEP Goodwill Ambassador for Ethiopia, Chad, Mali and South Sudan have made a keynote address. And also the Overview of National GWEP Performance in 2018 was presented by Mr. Mesfin Wossen, EDEP National Program Coordinator while the Status of 2017 NARM Recommendations was presented by Mr. Shegaw Fantaye, Guinea Worm Program Manager.
