EPHI Hosts Development Partner Coordination Platform Meeting
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) held a Development Partner Coordination Platform meeting on November 28, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Addis Ababa. The gathering aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s public health systems through strategic collaboration and partnership with national and international partners and stakeholders.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Mesay Hailu, Director General of EPHI, emphasized the importance of the platform andhighlighted that the strategic partnership and collaboration between EPHI and its partners contributed to significant achievements in public health programs and the strategic objectives of the institute. Dr. Mesay further noted the critical role of collaboration with government entities, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector in implementing essential public health functions and ensuring health security.
Dr. Mesay stressed that strong partnerships with diverse stakeholders enable EPHI to align the institute’s strategic objectives and to enhance the institute’s capacity and capability to prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats and emergencies, improve the health laboratory system, and drive innovation in health research and development.The Director General reaffirmed the EPHI’s commitment to establishing a sustainable and resilient public health system that could serve as a model for the region and beyond.
Presentations were given regarding the history, strategy directions, significant achievements, and insights from stakeholder mapping of EPHI. Presentations on their joint efforts with EPHI have also been given by representatives of the World Bank, BMGF, USCDC, and WHO.
Lastly, group discussions, reflections, and Q&A sessions allowed participants to actively participate and share their thoughts.
In his closing remarks, the Director General expressed his gratitude to the institute’s valued partners for their unwavering support and dedication. He also outlined future directions and next steps for devising strategies for avoiding duplication of efforts, increasing efficiency, andcontinuing collaboration to achieve shared goals in health system strengthening and innovation.
