EPHI is undertaking Baseline Survey on Maternal and Newborn Health Care
The Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute, EHNRI is conducting baseline survey to Monitor and evaluate the effect of the under implementation packages of the Ministry of Health on maternal and newborn services, as of July 1st, 2013.
According to Ato Abebe Bekele, Director of the Health System Research in the EHNRI, the survey, that is prolonged for the period of one year, has an objective to evaluate and monitor the quality of health service, the coverage and magnitude of the effectiveness of the interventions in order to improve maternal and newborn service deliveries in the four populous regions.
The Baseline assessment covers 25 woredas that are selected from Oromia, SNNP, Amhara and Tigray Regions. Similarly the mid line assessment will also cover the rest 75 district woredas from Amhar, Tigray, SNNP and Oromia in addition to 25 woredas that has been enrolled in the baseline assessment. The total number of woredas that would be covered on Midline assessment will be 100.
The survey coordinators disclosed that the assessment covers all hospitals, health centers and 50 percent of health posts in the districts. Community leaders, health extension workers, health development armies and traditional birth attendants are part of the survey doing sample and qualitative data collection.
The survey is calculated to cost about 1,363,205 million USD which is about 24,537,690 million Ethiopian Birr. The survey has received technical and financial support from Children Investment Fung Foundation, CIFF.
