OHZDP Scoping Workshop is Underway
Today, August 20, 2019, the One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization Process
(OHZDP) Scoping Workshop is taking place in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia will be the first
country to re-prioritize the One Health Zoonotic diseases since the first prioritization
was done some 5 years ago.
To discuss and review initial Zoonotic Disease list, create an initial list of 30-40
zoonotic disease prioritization, ensure participation of regional one health
representations into the OHZDP process, and familiarize with Centre for Disease
control’s prioritization process are the main objectives of the workshop.
Dr. Feyissa Regassa from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) welcomed all
the participants and acknowledged partners and representatives from regions and
federal offices for their participation on the workshop and reminded the participants
that One Health approach is not a choice but a must in our country.
Prioritization is necessary for allocating the necessary budget, personnel, important
for donors to continue their support or collaboration and it also provides
a foundation of trust.
Representatives from Ministry of Health, respective federal and regional offices,
Centre for Disease Control and focal EPHI staffs are participating on the workshop.
