Russian Embassy Donated Reagents for Monkeypox

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ethiopia has donated reagent kits for the detection and confirmation of Monkeypox virus. It is to be recalled that the WHO has declared the spread of the virus as Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) and a global pandemic.
The donation was handed over by Mr Mikhail Korneev, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, to Mr Daniel Melese, Director of the Regional Laboratories Capacity Building Directorate of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI).
The reagent kits are sufficient to conduct 500 tests. The kits are believed to help the institute for the timely detection of Monkeypox virus in suspected individuals. The virus has so far not been detected in Ethiopia. However, the donation will strengthen the preparedness of the institute to test for any possible suspected case.
