Training apprehended on Vaccine Production Technology and Quality Control
The Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute in collaboration with Finlay Institute, Havana, Cuba has conducted a training course on Vaccine Production Technology and Quality Control of Vaccines from November 15 to 23, 2012 at the meeting hall of the Institute.
The training course was opened by a key note address of His Excellency Juan Manuel Rodriguez Vasquez, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Addis Ababa and an opening speech of Dr. Amha Kebede, Director
On his behalf, Dr. Amha, stated that, with the arduous journey we have travelled so far and the relentless support we are getting from the people of Cuba and Government, we will be in a position to start a trail production of some toxoid and meningococcal vaccines in the coming two years.
The training that attracts all staff members of the Vaccine and Diagnostics Production Directorate was provided by Vaccine Production Experts of Finlay Institute.
Ato Kelbessa Urga, Director, Vaccine and Diagnostic Product Directorate at EHNRI said that the course enabled participants to understand complexities and unique challenges of the vaccine manufacturing and quality assurance environments. Such trainings will continue in the future to create an enabling environment for technology transfer in vaccine production.
It is known that Cuba is the first country in the world that developed and licensed the first synthetic Haemophillus influenza type b conjugated vaccine and Meningococcal B vaccine and a county which has graduated a total of 31, 486 African students from universities and technical schools from 44 African countries; out of it 3,557 are Ethiopians.
