A coordination platform meeting highlights joint action for a stronger health system

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) organized the Partners Coordination Platform meeting here in Addis Ababa on October 2,2025, bringing together stakeholders, development partners, and government representatives to enhance cooperation in promoting Ethiopia’s public health system.
Dr. Mesay Hailu, Director General of EPHI and Co-Chair of the Platform, opened the meeting by emphasizing the need of efficient coordination and collaboration in accomplishing national public health priorities. He pointed out that coordinating efforts with partners and contributors maximizes impact, prevents duplication, and guarantees long-lasting outcomes.
WHO Representative to Ethiopia and the African Union, Professor Francis Kasolo, praised Ethiopia’s readiness and IHR implementation efforts, and W/r. Biruke Abate of the Gates Foundation Senior Manager emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the nation’s health priorities.
Presentation topics included research and technology transfer, health laboratory services, national data management and analytics, and public health emergency management. Participants were able to discuss priority alignment, pinpoint gaps, and suggest coordinated activities during breakout sessions.
Finally, the participants reaffirmed their dedication to advancing EPHI’s mission and enhancing Ethiopia’s ability to identify, prevent, and address public health risks. The platform is still a vital tool for encouraging cooperation, improving accountability, and making sure funds are allocated to priority health initiatives
Participants from the European Union, UNICEF, KNCV, OJU-GOHI, Resolve to Save Lives, Nutrition International, Project HOPE, MSH, APHL, LSHTM, IOM, Jhpiego, CHAI, Expertise France, and IHME, concluded by reaffirming their dedication to advancing EPHI’s mission and enhancing Ethiopia’s ability to identify, prevent, and address public health threats. The platform continues to be an essential tool for encouraging cooperation, improving accountability, and guaranteeing that funds are allocated to the most important health projects.
