EPHI’s Delegation Visits Public Health Agency of Sweden

A delegation from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), led by Director General Dr. Mesay Hailu, is on an official visit to the Public Health Agency of Sweden (PHAS) to strengthen bilateral cooperation and build capacity in priority public health areas.PHAS Director General Olivia Wigzell welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed her commitment to deepening collaboration with the EPHI.
The visit focuses on advancing cooperation in public health leadership, emergency preparedness and response, laboratory systems, health communication, and data management. Through technical exchanges, meetings, and site visits, the delegation is exploring opportunities for mutual learning while sharing Ethiopia’s experiences and innovations.
This engagement further supports EPHI’s role as a Centre of Excellence by fostering partnerships that promote knowledge sharing, innovation, and capacity building. Both institutions are committed to advancing mutual learning and exploring opportunities for sustained collaboration to address current and emerging public health challenges.
The visit reflects the shared commitment of Ethiopia and Sweden to strengthening resilient public health systems, improving preparedness for public health emergencies, and promoting evidence-based decision-making to protect population health.
Prior to the visit, the Swedish Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Magnus Lennartsson, hosted the delegation for a luncheon at the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia, where discussions focused on the visit’s objectives and opportunities to strengthen future collaboration and partnerships between the institutions.
