A Chemical incident Simulation Exercise (TTX) was conducted in the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPH) on March 11 and 11,2025.
The exercise aimed to review and validate the existing national Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) surveillance and response framework to ensure effective preparedness, detection, and coordinated multisectoral action and identifying areas for improvement through a simulated heavy metal release from mining site in Ethiopia.
Dr. MelKamu Abte, Director General of EPHI, during the closing of the exercise said that such exercises are key to keep us vigilant and to also consistently evaluate our capacities and capabilities to ensure effective multisectoral preparedness, detection and response.
CBRN Tecnical Working Group, Regional CBRN focals and representatives from World Health Organization, UK Health Security Agency and Center for Disease Control-Africa participated on the exercise.
