EPHI Organizes the 2nd Partners Coordination Platform Forum

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) successfully convened the 2nd Partners Coordination Platform Forum in Addis Ababa, bringing together key partners to strengthen collaboration in public health interventions.
The event was held on June 18/2025, under the framework of the EPHI Partner Coordination Platform (PCP), which aims to foster dialogue, enhance coordination, and align public health initiatives with the institute’s national health priorities.
Key objectives of the platform include promoting strong partnerships among development partners and government entities, ensuring health interventions are effectively aligned with the institute’s strategic priorities and frameworks, and facilitating consistent information sharing. The platform also aims to foster synergy by minimizing duplication of efforts and promoting the optimal use of resources, as well as establishing robust systems to monitor and evaluate the impact of joint health initiatives.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Dr. Mesay Hailu, Director General of EPHI, has highlighted the works being undertaken by the institute. He also emphasized that health challenges are not confined by national borders. “Diseases do not respect borders, and neither should our solutions,” he said. “Our region shares common vulnerabilities, and we must build common solutions.”
Dr Mesay expressed EPHI’s commitment to continue strengthening coordination efforts, reinforcing transparency, and ensuring that all partners contribute meaningfully to the advancement of public health in Ethiopia.
A significant outcome of the gathering was the unanimous approval of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Gates Foundation as co-chairs of the platform for the upcoming year. Their leadership is expected to bring strategic guidance and bolster the platform’s effectiveness in addressing public health challenges.
Dr Owen L. KALUWA, Country Representative of WHO-Ethiopia, and Susna De, a Deputy Director for Health and Nutrition at the Gates Foundation have forwarded their key messages at the forum.
